Data protection – discovery and audits
We understand that, for many of our clients, knowing where to start in relation to data protection can be daunting.
In these cases, the first stage is often for us to carry out a data protection audit to understand:
- The nature of the data being processed
- Why it is processed
- More about that data (for example, where it is stored, who it is shared with, how long it is kept and so on).
We can manage this process from start to finish and liaise with each department directly to get the information needed.
From this we then prepare a written report which highlights any actions that are needed and steps which may be taken to resolve any issues. We will also help you to understand your obligations, and which actions should take priority over others.
More often than not, the discovery exercise identifies documents that should be in place but are not. Once we have completed the discovery exercise, we are then able to provide you with any missing documentation, either as fixed price templates for you to tailor, or as bespoke policies and documents that we prepare for you.
In addition, we can provide further advice on issues such as your relationships with any data processors, and international data transfers.
