Work Synopsis
Maria joined Prettys in 2018 as a Data Protection paralegal. She completed the LLM LPC combined course with BPP University while working full-time, before commencing her training contract in March 2021. Maria gained experience working within the Employment, Commercial Property and Commercial Dispute Resolution teams during this time.
Maria qualified as a solicitor in September 2022 and joined the Data Protection and Privacy team and is a valued member of the team.
Expertise
Advising clients on their data protection obligations and compliance strategies are part of Maria’s main focus. Maria regularly assists clients with data discovery exercises and gap analysis, including preparing and reviewing data protection policies and documents, as well as conducting data privacy assessments and providing advice on data breach management. Maria regularly advises clients based overseas on personal data transfers and drafting data processing and sharing agreements.
Recent Work
Maria’s recent work includes:
- Delivering bespoke training sessions to HR and marketing teams on data protection compliance;
- Reviewing third party contracts to ensure these are compliant with data protection legislation;
- Advising clients on deploying CCTV systems and the key elements of data protection law that must be complied with.
Personal Synopsis
In her spare time, Maria enjoys spending time with her family and friends, a good Netflix series, and watching women’s football.
