Seven members of staff have pledged their support to the Ipswich Winter Night Shelter which opened its doors again on Thursday 8th December.

The Ipswich Winter Night Shelter provides overnight accommodation, food and general support to the homeless during the three coldest months of the year.

Each of the seven shelters around Ipswich can accommodate twelve people per night, providing a warm and safe place for them to sleep, enjoy a hot nourishing meal and spend time in friendly company, before they depart for the day.

All guests need to complete a referral process before they can book a stay as the shelters do not operate as on call or drop in facilities. The referral process also enables the provision of financial advice, social welfare and other services to the guests from local charities including the Ipswich Housing Action Group (IHAG) and the Chapman Centre.

Trainee solicitor, Melissa de Carvalho who will be volunteering for the second time said; “The Ipswich Winter Night Shelter is a fantastic project to be involved in. I’m proud to volunteer for a second year on behalf of Prettys and be able to see first-hand the amazing work and success stories.”
