Acting on behalf of some of the largest shipping companies, P&I Clubs, freight forwarders and banks, Prettys is well placed to provide the expertise that you need. As transport solicitors and shipping lawyers based in East Anglia, we deal with a wide number of cases.

Our specialist maritime lawyer team has recent experience of ship arrest in the Admiralty Court in London and associated proceedings, proceedings in the Commercial and Mercantile Court in London, arbitration matters, international ship mortgage enforcement as well as the sale of a superyacht.  We also have recently acted in relation to bill of lading, waybill and charterparty cases and in relation to a GAFTA matter. 

Other work includes the enforcement of liens in respect of unpaid freight for major freight forwarder clients and advising on standard terms and conditions.  We have also advised on aviation matters including recent advice in relation to an insurance policy.  We have extensive knowledge of personal injury matters relating to transport.

Ian qualified as a solicitor in 1986 and joined Prettys in 1987. He has been a partner in the Corporate and Commercial Law Department since 1989 and the firm’s senior partner since 2010.

Ian advises on all aspects of non-contentious corporate and commercial work, in the public and private sectors including, mergers, acquisitions and disposals, private equity investments, joint venture and other trading arrangements, governance, outsourcing, and lending, security and other financing.

Ian also has expertise in insolvency law and advises directors and shareholders on restructuring exercises as well as insolvency practitioners, on a regular basis.

Ian is known for the depth of his experience, his ability and willingness to understand client's businesses and for providing advice which is results-driven, strategic and commercial.

Peter joined Prettys in 1987, becoming a partner in 1991.  He is an experienced dispute resolution lawyer, who has helped clients resolve disputes in a variety of fora, including the courts, arbitration and international dispute resolution.

Peter has acted for clients involved in a variety of industries both nationally and internationally. Peter's most recent experience is in construction/property related disputes, alternative dispute resolution (including international arbitration) and cases with an international element.

Daniel Billson

Daniel joined Prettys as a trainee solicitor in September 2010 and is currently a solicitor in the Corporate Services department.

Before commencing his training contract, Daniel completed his law degree at Sheffield Hallam University and his Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in London where he specialised in Commercial Law, Mergers and Acquisitions, and Commercial Dispute Resolution.

Daniel acts for and advises business owners on a wide variety of commercial and corporate matters including company incorporations, share and asset corporate transactions, management buy-outs, corporate restructuring and refinancing, shareholders’ agreements, I.P. registration and infringement, terms and conditions and various other commercial arrangements.

Louise Plant

Louise is an Associate in Prettys Personal Injury and Insurance Services Department based in Ipswich. She qualified in 2003 and since then has specialised in personal injury litigation.

She handles a wide range of personal injury and some non personal injury claims, relating to road traffic accidents, public liability, occupiers' liability, employer's liability and some disease / occupational health cases.

Louise acts for both private individuals and companies either bringing or defending personal injury claims.

She has dealt with a number of complex and often high value cases including Animals Act matters, road traffic accidents, occupiers liability claims pursuant to both the 1957 and 1984 Acts, accidents at sea involving ship owner’s clubs, claims involving multi-party and contractual / sub-contractor issues, as well as claims involving Highways Authorities and Utilities providers working on the highways and on private property.

Emma Loveday-Hill

Emma graduated from the University of Exeter with a degree in Law before completing the Legal Practice Course at BPP Law School in London where she obtained a distinction. Emma qualified as a Solicitor in September 2011.

Emma joined Prettys as a Solicitor in January 2012 after completing her training contract at a large commercial law firm with offices in Cambridge and London.
