November 2019

You may recall from the spring edition of our newsletter that we announced that Prettys’ ‘charity of the year’ was GeeWizz (https://geewizzcharity.com/). GeeWizz make a huge contribution to the local community through supporting children and young adults living with a life-threatening condition, disability or cancer. The staff at Prettys have been taking part in various activities over the year to help fundraise and help support GeeWizz with the amazing work that they carry out. Below we outline a few of the activities that we have taken part in to raise funds for the charity.

Splat Quack Go

A team from Prettys ventured to complete the six kilometre ‘Splat Quack Go’ obstacle course in Woodbridge on 15 June 2019, in aid of GeeWizz. Our team tackled obstacles such as cargo nets, balance beams and muddy pools of water, all while aiming to not lose their rubber duck in the process! The team made a brilliant effort of completing the course and although they may have lost some team members in the process, all finished smiling (and very muddy).

RSM Rounders Tournament

On 18 July 2019, a team from Prettys laced themselves into their trainers and headed off to Bury St Edmunds for the annual RSM Rounders Tournament. The evening was arranged by RSM to raise money for our charity of the year, GeeWizz. A total of sixteen firms took part, which included a number of other law firms and accountants.

Our team put in a great effort, but unfortunately did not impress enough to progress to the play-offs. We will endeavour to do better next year!

Prettys’ Corporate Quiz

We were keen to use our commercial network to support GeeWizz and therefore organised a corporate quiz in aid of the charity. Held at Suffolk Food Hall in Ipswich, ten teams from various local organisations took part. Included within the quiz was a raffle, which featured donations from a variety of local businesses, including tickets to a cocktail evening, climbing vouchers, restaurant and coffee shop vouchers, gym membership and cinema tickets.

Thanks to the generosity of the participating teams and to everyone who supplied a raffle prize, in total we were able to raise £1,305 for GeeWizz.

Bake sale and dress down day

In addition to other, more formal events, Prettys staff have also participated in a number of casual events in aid of GeeWizz.

As well as holding a charitable dress down day in July, in April staff took part in a week-long ‘bake off’, with a different member of staff baking each day of the week. Throughout the week we were provided with delicious homemade bakery goods. A lot of cake was therefore consumed in this week, from which raised £125 for GeeWizz.

Upcoming events

Our fundraising efforts will not slow down as we approach the end of the year. Over the next couple of months Prettys are pleased to be running a Wills month and participating in a Christmas Jumper Day.

Wills month

Throughout November, staff from our Estates team will prepare Wills for individuals in exchange for  donations to GeeWizz. Suggested donations are £150 for a straightforward Will, or £200 for straightforward mirror Wills.

Appointments are available to be booked between 1 and 30 November 2019 and are provided on first come first served basis. If you would like to find out further information, please contact the firm on 01473 232121.

Christmas Jumper day

In addition to drafting Wills, we will be taking part in GeeWizz’s second Christmas Jumper Day on Friday 13 December. Staff will make a donation to wear their favourite/craziest/noisiest jumper to work to raise funds for local children and their families.
