Kelly studied in Northampton and Chelmsford before qualifying as a Solicitor at a law firm with offices in London and East Anglia. Kelly joined Prettys on qualification in 2002 and became an Associate in 2005. She became a Partner in 2008 and Head of the Employment Services team in May 2011.

Kelly advises on the full range of HR and employment related issues including managing difficult employees, defending complex Employment Tribunal claims, advising on redundancy and restructuring exercises, and advising on the employment aspects of corporate transactions. She also advises on policies and procedures and undertakes training to managers, HR teams and directors on a range of employment subjects.

Kelly works for organisations across a variety of sectors including healthcare, logistics, leisure, construction, engineering, manufacturing, financial services and energy. Her clients include large multinationals, NHS Trusts, local authorities and charities as well as family owned businesses and start-ups. Kelly also acts for senior executives.

Matthew studied law at the London School of Economics and Political Science before qualifying as a Solicitor at a leading City law firm in 1995. He joined Prettys in 1997 and became a Partner in 2002.

Matthew’s clients include FTSE 100 companies, local authorities, NHS Trusts and charities. He advises on the full range of HR issues including grievances, performance management, disputes and dismissals, and collective and strategic matters such as redundancies and restructurings, mergers and outsourcing exercises, and policy making. He also advises on pensions matters to the extent to which they affect employers, and data protection. Matthew’s clients span a range of sectors, but he has particular expertise in working with organisations within healthcare, logistics, leisure, local government, aviation, insurance and bloodstock. He also acts for senior executives.

Matthew is the UK contributor to the American Bar Association’s Global Guide to Restrictive Covenants and Trade Secrets in Employment Law.

Matthew also advises on issues relating to data protection and information management, including implementation of the GDPR, dealing with subject access requests and advising organisations on loss of data, data theft and the data transfer.  He provides training on data protection compliance, both to businesses generally, and in specific contexts, in particular in respect of the transfer and use of health-related data.

Vanessa Bell

Vanessa studied at Southampton University and BPP Law School before qualifying as a Solicitor in a City firm in 2007. Vanessa joined Prettys from London in 2014 as a Solicitor in the Employment Services team.

Vanessa advises public and private sector clients on the full range of employment related issues, including grievances, disciplinary and performance management issues, advice on redundancies and business reorganisations, defending complex Employment Tribunal claims and providing advice on policies and procedures. Vanessa also regularly undertakes training for clients’ managers and HR teams.

Vanessa works for clients across a variety of sectors with particular experience of working for organisations within the education, leisure, aviation and retail sectors. Vanessa also has experience of acting for senior executives.

Emma Loveday-Hill

Emma graduated from the University of Exeter with a degree in Law before completing the Legal Practice Course at BPP Law School in London where she obtained a distinction. Emma qualified as a Solicitor in September 2011.

Emma joined Employment Services team in January 2012 after completing her training contract at a large commercial law firm with offices in Cambridge, London and Singapore.

Emma advises a range of public and private sector clients within a variety of sectors (including healthcare, transport and logistics, not for profit, finance and property) on all employment and human resources related matters, including performance management, sickness absence, restructures and disciplinary and grievance matters.  Emma also advises on policies and procedures and delivers training sessions to clients on a variety of topics.

Laura Pharez-Zea

Laura studied Experimental Psychology at Oxford University before completing her GDL and LPC at BPP Law School.  Laura qualified as a Solicitor at an international law firm in the City in 2010 and joined Prettys’ Employment Services team in May 2017.

Laura advises clients on the full range of contentious and non-contentious employment related issues.  She is experienced in drafting and advising on contracts of employment, settlement agreements, consultancy arrangements, staff handbooks and other employment policies.  She also advises on dismissals, redundancies and business reorganisations, performance management, disciplinary and grievance matters. 

Laura has experience of defending high value and complex Employment Tribunal and High Court claims and has regularly conducted training sessions for clients on relevant employment law issues.

Sheilah Cummins

Sheilah graduated from the University of Wales, College of Cardiff with a 1st Class BA Hons degree before qualifying as a Chartered Legal Executive, specialising in Employment Law, in 2011. 

Sheilah joined Prettys in 2016 from a large commercial firm with offices in Cambridge, London and Singapore. 

Sheilah works for employee and employer clients across a variety of sectors.  She advises on a range of contentious and non-contentious employment matters and is also experienced at preparing and delivering training and seminars for clients.

Siân Llewelyn

Siân graduated from the University of Exeter in 2014 with a degree in Law. She then joined Prettys as a Paralegal and worked on business development and assisted with personal injury insurance projects.

Siân left Prettys in 2015 to go on to study the Legal Practice Course at the University of Law in London, where she obtained a distinction. Siân returned to Prettys in September 2016 to commence her training contract and is currently in her fourth seat within the Employment department. Siân has previously undertaken seats in Commercial Litigation, Residential Property and Insurance.
