Ipswich-based law firm Prettys has named Suffolk and Norfolk charity Fresh Start New Beginnings as its new Charity of the Year.

Fresh Start New Beginnings, which also has its head office in Ipswich, provides therapeutic services across Suffolk and Norfolk for children and teenagers under 18 who have reported being sexually abused. Providing appropriate and effective support to each young person costs around £2,500 and the charity is therefore very keen to enlist the support of as many local businesses as possible.

Why has Prettys chosen Fresh Start New Beginnings as charity of the year?

Chair of Prettys’ CSR committee, Michael Booth, comments: “The work of Fresh Start New Beginnings has been proving itself invaluable in our region since the charity was founded 10 years ago. The effect of Covid on the incidence of abuse is an added cause of concern and we are proud to pledge to support Fresh Start New Beginnings with a range of fundraising events and activities over the coming year.

How will Prettys be raising money for its charity of the year

The Corporate Social Responsibility team at Prettys, will be working to try to raise funds for Fresh Start New Beginnings in the year ahead.  Initiatives will include supporting the Fresh Start New Beginnings Dragon Boat race in June, taking on a Steps Challenge in September and hosting a corporate quiz later in the year.

Sandra Lucas, Corporate & Community Fundraiser at Fresh Start New Beginnings, says: “Our aim is to provide hope and build confidence to children and young adults opening a door to a new pathway to rebuild their lives.

We already have some fantastic support from local companies and individual donors and are delighted to be chosen as the Charity of The Year by Prettys Solicitors in Ipswich.

The awareness created by businesses and their fundraising events is invaluable to us and the children we support, and we look forward to working alongside them this year with their fundraising events”.

Prettys’ Senior Partner, Ian Waine, adds: “We are keen to play a full part as an ethical and responsible business which includes supporting charities which operate in our local region. We look forward to helping Fresh Start New Beginnings to undertake its important work over the next year.
